Fire Safety & Service FAQs

How long does a fire performance usually last?

My fire dancing show length is approximately 3-4 minutes each - the time the fuel completely evaporates off the wicks.

What are your rates for your fire act?

My fire dancing show rates are based on the number of performances I will do. I will need to take short breaks in between each performance since this is a solo act. The longer amount of time you choose to book me, the cheaper that rate gets:

Fire Performance

30 MINUTES / 2 PERFORMANCES $160

1 HOUR / 3 PERFORMANCES $231

2 HOURS / 4 PERFORMANCES $300

3 HOURS / 6 PERFORMANCES $438

4 HOURS / 8 PERFORMANCES $560

+Travel Fee: $30 per hour travel

+Special Requested Costume Fee: $30 towards costume budget

Hoop Video Flow

1 MINUTE (FREESTYLE FLOW) $100/MIN VIDEO

1 MINUTE (CUSTOM CHOREOGRAPHY) $200/MIN VIDEO

1 MINUTE (ON-SITE FOOTAGE) / $200 PER MIN VIDEO

+Travel Fee: $30 per hour travel

+Special Requested Costume Fee: $30 towards costume budget

Notes:

🔥 I believe these prices are fair according to industry standard, and with my extensive dance training (20+ years) and professional dance background in consideration. However, I am flexible and also like to make things possible for good people! Please send over any inquiries and details on your needs. Let’s discuss!

🔥 Travel fee: I am located in St. Petersburg, FL! I can travel up to 50 miles (surrounding counties) during the weekday evenings, and around 200 miles on the weekend by car. Since gas is a business expense for me, I kindly ask for this fee to help reduce the costs to some of my travel expenses.

🔥 Special Requested Costume Fee: This can be quoted into the final price. This is determined if the paid performance or on-site flow video services require a certain character/costume, and would need to be ordered prior, especially for this gig. I personally own plenty of performance-ready fire-safe outfits in different color variations for different vibes and age-appropriate settings.

I already have certain themed outfits, such as GoGo, clown/cirque, pirate, dead/halloween/day of the dead, bollywood, fairy, Laua/island, white party, tribal, space/alien, candyland, LED, holiday, 20s/70s/80s time-era, and season themes. Please ask if you don't see what you're looking for. I will communicate if I will need to order something and need to include this fee.

Do you have performer's insurance?

Yes. Alexandra Schulke is insured for general liability for up to $1MM through PEEP Insurance.  I can provide a certificate of insurance listing your venue as additional insured for no extra charge.

What are your fire performance requirements (stage are needs)?

I require a 12 x 12 ft space, minimum, for a solo fire dancing show. Larger shows with more fire dancers require 18x18 ft minimum. If the event is indoors, the ceiling would need to be at least 15-18 feet in height.

There should be at least two clear and unobstructed exits from the fire performance area (so I don't have to thread my way through a crowd with fuel-covered tools). If the event is indoors, good ventilation is essential.

A secure dressing area where I can store my gear and personal belongings for the duration of the event is optional, but very much appreciated.

I will also need a fueling area that is easily accessible from the stage - a loading dock or side-yard is usually perfect for this.  I fuel up my tools just before each performance and have to spin out access fuel.

Can you do indoor fire shows?

Yes, I can and have done indoor shows - I have performed at a country club with high ceilings, inside office conference rooms, and inside dance clubs. For most shows on private property or for many outdoor shows, you do not need a fire permit. If your show is indoors on commercial or public property, you may need to obtain a fire permit. Permit regulations vary by city, and each city has slightly different rules and processes, and usually require a fee. You would need to contact your local Fire department to understand the regulations in your area.

What are your personal safety procedures?

All prices always include at least one fire safety person (most likely my significant other, Jake). He will be watching me and have a fire-retardant blanket ready, in the unlikely chance a flame catches on me or my costuming. However this is not likely to happen (hasn’t happened yet!) because I take extra precautions to make sure this won’t happen. I always wear fire-safe clothing fabric (natural fibers), or if I don’t, I douse it in fire-retardant liquid spray made especially for synthetic fabrics. I wet my hair, pull it back, and wear arm protection when I can.

How far in advance do I need to book your fire act?

I start booking 3 months in advance, but I can often handle requests for just a few days away, upon availability. To get your first choice of dates and times, it's best to give 3-4 weeks lead-time.

Our busiest times are Friday and Saturday evenings just after sunset. Later nights and weeknights tend to be a bit more open.

Email me at alex.schulke1234@gmail.com for inquiries or fill out a service request form to get in touch with me and find out my availability.

Can I see more videos of your fire dancing show before I book?

Yes!  I have lots of fire dancing videos here in my Flow Portfolio. Please take a look!

How dangerous is the fire show? Have you ever had an accident?

For fire dancing shows I always bring at least one dedicated and trained safety person along with me to the performance. I have never had an accident at a show where the fire got out of our immediate control, and the only injuries have been minor performer burns (nothing worse than I get while practicing).

Do I need to get a fire permit to have a fire dancer?

If your show is indoors on commercial or public property, you may need to obtain a fire permit. Permit regulations vary by city, and each city has slightly different rules and processes. Find out more what your local fire regulations are by contacting the local fire department.

I'm not sure what time it will get dark. What time should the fire show start?

Weather apps and websites can determine the time of the sunset on the day of your event. Full dark generally falls a half hour after sunset, and I often like to start the fire dancing performances just before full dark falls - twilight shows can be really beautiful.
